An Chang-Ok (Hangul: 안창옥; born April 23 in Pyongyang City) is an elite North Korean gymnast and 2024 Olympian. She has been a member of the North Korean National Team since 2017, and has represented North Korea at the 2019 World Championships and 2022 Asian Games. In 2024, she qualified as an individual to the Olympics in Paris.

Junior Career[]

2017[]

An made her international debut at the Asian Junior Championships in Bangkok, Thailand. She placed fifteenth in the all-around.

Senior Career[]

2019[]

An made her senior international debut at the Doha World Cup, but didn't make the event finals. She was later named to the North Korean team for the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. North Korea placed twentieth in qualifications, and An did not make any individual finals.

2021-23[]

In 2021, North Korea was declared "non-compliant" by WADA, after they refused to allow independent anti-doping officials into the country. This non-compliance resulted in the North Korean flag not being used in international competitions, and North Korea chose not to send athletes to competitions where they couldn't use their flag.[1] In 2023, the North Korean flag was used at the Asian Games in Hangzhou, China (in defiance of WADA), which allowed North Korean gymnasts to compete. An won vault and uneven bars gold, team bronze, and placed sixth in the all-around.

2024[]

In January, North Korea was removed from WADA's "non-compliant" list.[2] An was able to compete in the FIG World Cup series to qualify as an individual to the Olympics. She won vault gold at the Cairo World Cup in Egypt and Cottbus World Cup in Germany, and won vault silver at the Baku World Cup in Azerbaijan and Doha World Cup in Qatar. Her results in the FIG World Cup series earned her an individual spot for the Olympics in Paris.[3]

Paris Olympics[]

In qualifications, An competed in the third subdivision. She competed on three events, and qualified to the vault final in sixth place. She placed fourth in the vault final.
