Sarah Voss (born October 21, 1999 in Frankfurt, Germany) is an elite German gymnast and two-time (2020 and 2024) Olympian. She is the 2022 German National Champion, and is a member of the German bronze medal-winning team at the 2022 European Championships, the first European team medal for Germany. She has also represented Germany at the European Championships and World Championships.
Junior Career[]
2013[]
In April 2013, Voss competed at the Pre-Olympic Youth Cup in the 14-15 age division. She placed sixth in the all-around.
In 2014, Voss competed at the German Youth National Championships, where she placed first in the all-around in the 1999 age division, finishing .100 ahead of second place finisher Pauline Tratz.
Senior Career[]
2015[]
Voss turned senior in 2015. In April, she competed at Bundesliga, which are German club competitions. She competed bars and beam and finished fourth with her team. In September, she competed at the German Championships for the first time as a senior, finishing sixth in the all-around, fifth on the uneven bars, and sixth on floor. She then competed at the German Worlds Team Trial, finishing sixth in the all-around and tying for third on vault. In December, she attended the Toyota International, finishing eleventh on vault, sixth on bars, twelfth on beam, and eighth on floor.
2016[]
In March, Voss competed at the German National Team Cup, finishing eighth in the all-around and third on beam. She competed at the Stuttgart World Cup as part of the team competition, where she and the German team finished second. She attended the Doha World Cup in Qatar, where she made the floor exercise final and finished seventh. At the Belgium Friendly in April, she finished twelfth place in the all-around. At the Bundesliga next month, she placed tenth in the all-around. She was chosen to represent Germany at the European Championships in Bern, where she competed vault and beam to help Germany to a seventh place finish in the team final. Later in June, she competed at the German Championships and finished seventh all-around. She competed at the German Olympic Trials and finished sixth, and finally she competed at the 2nd Bundesliga in October, finishing fourth all-around.
2017[]
in March, Voss competed at the German National Team Cup again, finishing seventh on beam and ninth on floor. She represented Germany at the Stuttgart World Cup team event later that month, finishing in fourth place with the Germany II team. In May, she attended the 1st Bundesliga, finishing ninth all-around. At FinGym Turku, she competed bars, beam, and floor, placing second on beam and first on floor. She attended the German Championships in June, finishing fifth in the all-around and fourth on beam. In September, she attended the German Worlds Trials placing second on vault and fourth on beam. She attended the Paris World Cup next, making vault and beam finals and finishing fifth and seventh respectively. In October, at the 2nd Bundesliga, she finished fifth in the all-around, third on floor, and fourth on beam. At the next Bundesliga, she finished fourth all-around and first on vault and floor. She finished the year at the Toyota International in December, placing second on vault, eighth on bars and beam, and third on floor.
2018[]
Boss attended the Bundesliga in March, finishing first on vault, second on uneven bars, and third on beam. She attended the Stuttgart World Cup once again, this time participating in the all-around competition and finishing fifth. She also attended the Birmingham World Cup, where she finished eighth in the all-around but had the highest score on vault. She attended the German Trials for the European Championships, and finished second in the all-around, first on vault, and third on beam. At the Sainté Gym Cup in July, she placed second with her team. She was chosen for the German team for the European Championships in Szczecin, Poland, where she made the vault final and finished fourth. Unfortunately, Germany was unable to make the team final after mistakes in the qualification round. In September, Voss attended the German Worlds Trial, where she placed third in the all-around, first on vault, and fourth on floor. She attended the Russelsheim Friendly, placing fifth all-around and third on beam. This year, she was chosen for Germany's world championships team for the first time. In Doha, the Germans made the team final, where Voss contributed vault and beam scores for the team's eighth place finish. After the World Championships, she attended the 4th Bundesliga, placing second in the all-around and first on vault. In December, she attended the Bundesliga finals, finishing third on beam and third with her team.
2019[]
Voss competed at the 2nd Bundesliga in May, placing first on vault and beam. In August, she attended the German Championships, winning the national titles on vault and balance beam as well as finishing fifth on floor exercise. She was selected for Germany's World Championships team. In October, she competed at the World Championships in Stuttgart, Germany. She made both the all-around and balance beam finals, finishing seventh and tenth respectively, and helped Germany qualify a full team to the 2020 Olympics.
2020-2021[]
Voss competed at the American Cup in early March, but falls on vault and balance beam landed her in eleventh place.
In 2021, she attended the European Championships in Basel, where the German team wore unitards, a rarity in gymnastics. Voss competed only on vault and balance beam, and while she did not make any finals, she was the first reserve for the vault final. At the German National Championships in June, she won vault and balance beam gold, floor exercise silver, all-around bronze, and placing sixth on uneven bars. She won the all-around at the German Olympic Trials and was named to the German Olympic team for the Tokyo Olympics.[1] At the end of the month, she competed at the Flanders International Team Challenge, placing sixth with her team and fourteenth in the all-around.
Tokyo Olympics[]
Like at the European Championships, the German Olympic team competed in unitards. Voss competed in the fifth subdivision, starting on uneven bars. Germany placed ninth in qualifications, while she placed forty-fifth in the all-around, and did not advance to the individual events.
2022[]
Voss competed at the Baku World Cup in early April, placing fourth on uneven bars and winning gold on balance beam. In June, she competed at the Osijek World Cup in Croatia. Despite a fall in the uneven bars final, she managed to win silver, and additionally placed fourth on floor exercise. At the German National Championships, she won all-around and vault gold, balance beam and floor exercise silver, and placed fourth on uneven bars.
In August, she competed at the European Championships in Munich, Germany. Although she didn't place in the all-around (due to two of her teammates placing higher than her), she was key in Germany winning bronze in the team final. On Germany's last event - vault - Voss upgraded her full-twisting Yurchenko to a double, which assured the bronze for her team.
Unknowingly, Voss suffered a tear to her calf muscle before leaving for the European Championships. Afterwards competing, she had an MRI which confirmed the injury. This left her out of contention for the World Championships.[2]
2023[]
Voss returned to competition at the European Championships in Turkey, placing ninth with her team and sixteenth in the all-around. She was named to the German team for the World Championships in Antwerp, Belgium. There, she placed twenty-second in the all-around, qualifying as an individual for the Olympics.
2024[]
Voss competed at the German National Championships in June, winning gold on balance beam and silver in the all-around.
Paris Olympics[]
In qualifications, Voss competed in the second subdivision, qualifying to the all-around in twenty-fifth place. She placed twenty-fourth in the all-around final.
