Tan Jiaxin (Chinese: 谭佳薪, pinyin: Tán Jiāxīn, born December 3 in Changsha, Hunan) is a retired elite Chinese gymnast and 2016 Olympian. She is a 2014 Asian Games team gold medalist and 2014 World team silver medalist.
Career[]
2012-2013[]
Although she did not make the Olympics in 2012, Tan has continued to compete and become a strong player for China. In 2012, she competed at the Chinese Individual Nationals in the fall, winning silver on uneven bars.
In 2013, she won gold on uneven bars at the Doha World Cup. She won team bronze medals at the Chinese Nationals and Chinese National Games, and also placed sixth on vault in the latter competition. She was named to the Chinese team for the East Asian Games, where she won gold with her team and on uneven bars, and silver on vault.
In November, she was named to the Chinese team for the Stuttgart World Cup, where she won the gold medal in the Team Challenge.[1]
2014[]
She dealt with injuries that left her out of the Chinese Nationals but recovered in time to be named to the Chinese team for the Asian Games and World Championships. At the Asian Games, she won team gold and debuted a new double twisting double layout dismount off the uneven bars. At the World Championships, she helped the Chinese qualify for the team final in second place but was edged out of the uneven bars final because her teammates Yao Jinnan and Huang Huidan had qualified ahead of her. She performed well and helped her team win the silver medal behind the United States of America.
2015[]
Tan competed at the São Paulo World Cup in May, but failed to make the event finals. In June, she won team gold and placed fifth on uneven bars at the Chinese National Championships. In October, she competed at the World Championships in Glasgow, Scotland, helping the Chinese win the silver medal behind the Americans.
2016[]
Tan competed at the Chinese National Championships in May, winning uneven bars silver and placing seventh on floor exercise. She was initially named an alternate to the Chinese Olympic team, however after an athlete sustained an injury, she was added to the team in July.[2]
Rio Olympics[]
China competed in the first subdivision of qualifications, starting on balance beam. China was able qualify second into the team final, but they could not replicate their success from the last two World Championships, and instead won the bronze.
2017[]
Tan continued to compete after Rio, winning team bronze at the Chinese National Championships in May. She officially announced her retirement at the Chinese National Games, where she placed fourth with her team.[3]
