Maria Neculiţă (b. March 30, 1974 in Deva, Romania) is a retired Romanian artistic gymnast who represented Romania at the 1991 and 1992 World Championships and the 1992 Barcelona Summer Olympics. Her best events were balance beam and floor exercise. 

Career[]

Neculiţă began gymnastics when she was 8 years old at Cetate Deva Gymnastics Club. She was selected for the national team in 1987. Neculiţă made her international debut in 1988 at Moscow News where she won a bronze medal on floor exercise. In 1990 she represented Romania at the European Championships in Athens, Greece where she won a bronze medal on balance beam. In 1991 Neculiţă made the Romanian World Championship team and helped them win a bronze medal in the team final but did not qualify for any individual finals. At World Championships next year she won a silver medal on balance beam, tying with China's Li Yifang, and a bronze medal on floor exercise, tying with CIS team member Tatiana Lysenko. Neculiţă was selected for the Romanian Olympic team where she helped the team win a silver medal in the team competition but did not qualify to any individual finals. Neculiţă's last competition before retireing from elite gymnastics was the 1992 Balkan Championships. Here she won the all-around, floor exercise and balance beam and won a silver medal on uneven bars. 

After retiring she went to Italy to coach at the Centro Sportivo Osaka club.
