Tereschenko trained in Ust-Omchug, an extremely isolated town which is only accessible through the R504 Kolyma Highway[2]. Despite the isolation that Tereschenko had to face while living there, she made a strong debut at the Junior USSR Championships, winning the all-around and floor exercise, while placing 2nd on vault and 3rd on beam.
