Wendy Suzanne Bruce (born March 23 in Plainview, TX) is a retired American gymnast who represented the USA at the 1992 Olympic Games. She trained at Brown's Gymnastics under Kevin and Rita Brown.
Career[]
Bruce made her senior debut in 1989. At the U.S. Nationals, she placed fourth on beam and fifth in the all-around. She was named to the American team for the World Championships. The Americans placed fourth in the team final and Bruce eleventh in the all-around. Afterwards, she competed at the Brussels Gym Masters and won the all-around.
In at the U.S. Nationals in 1991, she placed fifth in the all-around and on balance beam, and sixth on vault and bars. The following year, she returned to the U.S. Nationals, winning bronze on uneven bars and placing fourth on vault and ninth in the all-around. She advanced to the Olympic Trials where she placed sixth in the all-around. She was named to the Olympic Training Squad, and officially named to the Olympic team in Barcelona. She contributed to the U.S.'s bronze medal finish in the team final, the highest finish at a fully-attended Olympics until 1996.
Bruce continued to compete after Barcelona, placing fourth on vault and eighteenth in the all-around at the 1994 U.S. Nationals. She retired shortly afterwards.
